La vitamine C est un antioxydant efficace qui illumine le teint et atténue les signes de l'âge. À l'état pur, la vitamine C est instable dans l'eau. L'ascorbyl glucoside est un dérivé hydrosoluble de la vitamine C. Bien plus stable dans l'eau, il est cependant moins puissant que l'acide L-ascorbique. Sa meilleure solubilité dans l'eau permet d'obtenir une texture de sérum très agréable. Considéré comme une référence parmi les dérivés de vitamine C grâce à sa grande stabilité et son utilisation facile, il ne permet toutefois pas d'atteindre une concentration aussi élevée que celle de l'acide L-ascorbique. Outre les bienfaits généraux de la vitamine C pure, l'ascorbyl glucoside a démontré des propriétés éclaircissantes spécifiques.
