Vitamin D is a fat-soluble compound essential for the body's wellbeing. Another important function of vitamin D is to regulate calcium and phosphate metabolism and to participate in the process of cell division - it helps in the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus and in maintaining normal blood calcium levels.
Vitamin D is most commonly divided into two compounds: ergocalciferol - or vitamin D2 - and cholecalciferol - or vitamin D3, which is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D. Its main source is exposure to sunlight - which is why it is commonly referred to as the 'sunshine vitamin'. It is thought that up to 50% of the population may be deficient in it. This is related both to modern lifestyles limiting outdoor activities and the difficulty in providing vitamin D from food.
Vitamin D3 4000 IU is a food supplement containing a stable and bioavailable form of vitamin D3, naturally derived from lanolin (Quali®-D). The product is available as easy-to-swallow soft capsules filled with coconut MCT oil extracted only from the oil produced from the fruit of the coconut palm Cocos nucifera. One capsule contains up to 4,000 IU of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), which corresponds to the recommended daily allowance (2000% RWS).
