Patient Information Leaflets are updated periodically by the manufacturer. SHAKE THE BOTTLE VIGOROUSLY BEFORE USE Take the solution by mouth. Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls every four hours if required. Do not give to children under 12 years old unless your doctor tells you to. Hazards and Cautions Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.DO NOT EXCEED THE STATED DOSE.If symptoms persist contact your doctor.Talk to your doctor if you have history of asthma.Do not take more medicine than the label tells you to.Talk to your doctor before use if you have a history ofasthma. This medicine may cause opioid-like effectswhen used at high doses. This medicine can lead todependence. Therefore the treatment should be ofshort duration.This medicine can make you feel sleepy. Do not drive whiletaking this medicine until you know how it makes you feel.1. Before you use this medicineDo not use the medicine if you have....• An allergy to any of the ingredients • Taken MAOIs(monoamine oxidase inhibitors) for depression within the lasttwo weeks • Shortage of breath • Liver problems • An asthmaattack • A persistent cough or one which produces phlegm• Or are under 12 years.Talk to your doctor if you have....• A history of asthma • Ever been or are addicted to opioids, alcohol,prescription medicines, or illegal drugs • Previously suffered fromwithdrawal symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, shaking or sweating,when you have stopped taking alcohol or drugs.Taking this medicine regularly, particularly for a long time, can lead toaddiction. Only use this medicine as described in the leaet.Addiction can cause withdrawal symptoms when you stop taking thismedicine.Withdrawal symptoms can include restlessness, dif‑cultysleeping, irritability, agitation, anxiety, feeling your heartbeat(palpitations), increased blood pressure, feeling or being sick,diarrhoea, loss of appetite, shaking, shivering or sweating. Speak toyour doctor if you experience withdrawal symptoms.Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you aretaking....• Cimetidine for stomach ulcers • antidepressants or antipsychotics –taking these medicines together may cause mental status changes(e.g. agitation, hallucinations, coma), and other effects such as raisedbody temperature, increase in heart rate, unstable blood pressure,exaggeration of reflexes, muscular rigidity, lack of coordination and/orgastrointestinal symptoms (e.g nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea).3. Further informationIf you take more of this medicine than you should, you mayexperience the following symptoms: nausea and vomiting,involuntary muscle contractions, agitation, confusion, somnolence,disturbances in consciousness, involuntary and rapid eye movements,cardiac disorders (rapid heart beating), coordination disorders,psychosis with visual hallucinations, and hyperexcitability.Other symptoms in case of massive overdose may be: coma, severebreathing problems, and convulsions.
